Learning Commons “chair fair”
We’re renovating and creating new learning and study spaces—the very first steps toward creating a Learning Commons at UMass Dartmouth. We’ll be asking your opinion about many of the services and amenities we hope to offer.
Now through Sept. 29, we’re considering new chairs.

Visit the “chair fair” on the Library lower level to try out four new armchairs and two new task chairs. You can “vote” for your favorites in person, by using our form, or by sending us your comments via our blog (see below).

Planned for the lower, first and second floors of the Claire T. Carney Library, the Learning Commons will be a collaborative learning space offering access to resources, technology, and people to support teaching, learning, and research. Additional information is available on the Learning Commons site, and we’ll be posting more news here in the weeks to come.

This is great!

I really like the chair on the top left, the one with a desk attached, because it is very comfortable and I don’t have to lean over to a table and break my back doing work. I could sit comfortably while doing homework. I recommend buying 50 of them.

Just one thing to keep in mind when selecting the chair: these chairs will need to last some time so pick the material that will best withstand extensive use. Though vinyl is easier to take care of and clean when dirty, it tends to crack over time. That should probably be taken into consideration. I do like the 2 on the left the best, however the two on the right would probably be more practical.

I totally agree with Christina that although the ones made from vinal are pretty and easier to take care of, its important that we maintain functionality in a space that will be used so frequently. I would also like to have things that are affordable. Its ridiculous that the library would spend a lot of money on something as unimportant as chairs… I like the two styles on the right.
